Quick answer
Evaporator coil replacement swaps the indoor coil in the air handler when it leaks refrigerant, usually from corrosion. In Miami coils often fail in 6 to 10 years. The job includes recovering refrigerant, installing a matched coil, pressure testing, pulling a deep vacuum and recharging by weight. Many coils are covered for parts under the manufacturer's warranty if the system was registered.

The evaporator coil sits inside the air handler and stays cold and wet whenever the system runs. In Miami that is most of the year. Moisture, household chemicals and the copper and aluminum in the coil combine to cause pinhole corrosion, and once a coil leaks, repairs rarely hold for long.
Replacing the coil alone makes sense when the rest of the system is healthy and not too old: a condenser with years left, a sound air handler cabinet and blower, and a refrigerant that is still available. If the system is over 12 to 15 years old or uses R-22, replacing the whole system is usually better value, and we will show both prices.
Before quoting, we check the serial number for warranty coverage. Registered systems often have 10-year parts warranties that cover the coil itself.
