Quick answer

Most air conditioning repairs Vice City Cooling runs across Miami-Dade are finished on the first visit, and the phone is answered 24 hours a day. That works because the parts Miami systems go through fastest ride on every van, and you get a written price before any work starts.

What we do

Every job we run, in nine groups

66 services, from a no-cool call at midnight to a full permitted change-out with the FPL rebate handled.

Warning signs

Signs your AC needs a technician

Warm air from the vents

The fan runs but the house keeps climbing past the setpoint, usually a capacitor, low charge or an iced coil.

Water by the air handler

A clogged condensate line or a rusted pan. In Miami humidity this is the most common summer call.

Humming or clicking outside

A compressor or fan trying to start against a failed capacitor or a worn contactor.

Clammy air at 75 degrees

The system cools but does not dry the air, often an oversized unit or a dirty coil.

A musty smell at startup

Mold on the coil, blower or drain pan inside a closet or attic air handler.

FPL bills creeping up

Dirty coils, a slow leak or leaky attic ducts make the system run far longer than it should.

Local conditions

Why a Miami system fails differently

A central air conditioner in Miami runs close to 3,000 hours a year, roughly double what the same unit works in Atlanta. The heat is only half of it. Summer dew points sit in the mid 70s for months, which means the evaporator coil is pulling gallons of water out of the air every day and the drain line is wet, warm and dark from May through October. That is the perfect place for algae, and a blocked condensate line is the single most common call we run between June and September.

Salt air is the second local problem. Condensers in Key Biscayne, Miami Beach, Coconut Grove and anywhere within a few miles of Biscayne Bay lose coil fins to corrosion years before an inland unit would. We rinse coils on every maintenance visit and recommend coated coils or guards on coastal replacements.

The third is the building stock itself. Flagami, Westchester and Coral Way are full of 1950s to 1970s CBS homes with attic duct runs that were sized for a smaller system and have been patched a dozen times. Kendall and Doral add 1980s and 1990s subdivisions with air handlers in closets and garages. Brickell, Downtown and the Beach run on condo air handlers that have to be replaced under association rules and a building engineer's eye. We work in all three every week.

How it works

What a repair visit looks like

  1. 1

    You call, we answer

A real dispatcher picks up at any hour, takes the ZIP and the symptom, and gives you a two-hour arrival window.

  2. 2

    Diagnosis with the panel open

The technician tests capacitor, contactor, refrigerant pressures, airflow and the drain line, then shows you the readings.

  3. 3

A written price before any work

You get the repair cost and, if the unit is old enough to matter, a replacement number beside it. Nothing starts until you say so.

  4. 4

    Repair from the truck

Capacitors, contactors, motors, float switches and common refrigerant parts ride on every van, so most repairs finish on the first visit.

  5. 5

    Test and walk-through

We run the system to temperature split, clear the drain, and leave you with the readings and the invoice by email.

FAQ

Questions Miami homeowners ask first

How fast can someone get to my house when the AC quits?

Calls are answered at every hour and most Miami-Dade repair visits are booked for the same day. During the July and August peak we hold emergency slots each afternoon and evening so a no-cool call is not pushed to the next morning.

Do you charge to come out and diagnose the problem?

There is a flat diagnostic fee for a repair visit, and it is credited back to the bill when you approve the repair. Replacement estimates are free because the visit is about measuring the house, not troubleshooting the unit.

Which parts of Miami-Dade do you actually cover?

Our routes run from Flagami and West Flagler out to West Kendall, Doral and Hialeah, and east through Coral Gables, Brickell and Miami Beach. Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Pembroke Pines and Miramar in south Broward are on the routes too, and the full list of counties, cities, neighborhoods and ZIP codes is on the Miami Area page.

Do you pull permits for an AC change-out?

Yes. Miami-Dade requires a mechanical permit for a replacement, and the new equipment has to be anchored to the wind-load rules in the Florida Building Code. We file the permit, set the inspection and hand you the closed permit paperwork.

Can you help with the FPL rebate?

We install equipment that qualifies for the FPL residential AC rebate and complete the contractor portion of the application, so the credit shows up on your account rather than getting lost in a drawer.

What happens if you cannot take my call right away?

On the rare day a call comes in that we cannot reach in time, we pass it to another trusted Miami company we know rather than leave a home sitting at 88 degrees.

The house is 86 degrees and climbing. Make the call.
